Descriptions of STLGA Tournaments

STLGA SPECIAL TOURNAMENTS

Charm Tournament
The Charm tournament is a two-day low net individual tournament, generally held in April. There are two winners: 1st place receives a Gold Charm and 2nd place, a Silver Charm. On Day 1, foursomes play in flights. On Day 2, players compete based on the results from Day 1. There is a dinner social after the second day of the tournament.

4-Person Member/Member Tournament
The 4-person member/member is a one-day tournament held on a regular Wednesday league day in May. Players make up their foursomes. A team game is played – the tournament coordinators determine the exact format. There is a social afterwards.

Flag Tournament
The flag tournament is generally played on a regular league day in June. Players are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue. Players see how many holes above and beyond 18 they can play based on par + handicap. Each player is assigned a target number, the player’s handicap plus par. The goal is to shoot less than the target number on 18 holes. Remaining strokes carry over to the first hole where the player shoots until the target score is met. A flag is planted at the spot where the ball lands on the last allotted stroke. The winner is the player who goes the greatest distance on the course after 18 holes are completed. There is a STLGA meeting and cookout after the tournament.

Member Guest Tournament
The member guest tournament is also held on a league day in June. There is generally a social the night before and a luncheon after the tournament. The tournament chairpersons determine the format, cost, and prizes.

Rally for a Cure
The Rally for a Cure is our Breast Cancer support tournament and takes place on a Wednesday in July. The only prizes awarded are closest to the pin on the par 3’s (2 winners on each hole, closest and 2nd closest). It is stroke play with no game but scores are posted and birdies and chip-ins count. One par 3 hole is designated the “rally” hole and anyone reaching the green in regulation receives a golf ball. The cost is $20 for the tournament and $5 for each memorial flag. Groups may make their own foursomes or players may sign-up individually and be paired with other singles. There is a social after.

Club Championship
The Club Championship is a three-day tournament with a round played on each course.
Participants are divided into flights. The championship flight is stroke play with the lowest total gross score winning. All other flights are stroke play with one low gross and one low net winner per flight. For the first day of play, pairings in flight are done in order by index. For Days 2 and 3, players in each flight are paired in rank order by score, from highest to lowest. There is a social after the final day to announce the winners.

Two Member/Member
The format is a 2-day tournament (a Wednesday and Thursday in September) with a different net game for each 9 holes played (such as Modified Alternate Shot, Two Net Balls Aggregate, Captains Choice, Best Net Ball). Players generally make their own foursome for the two days. If singles or twosomes sign up, the tournament coordinators will make up foursomes. There is a dinner social after.
